“Don’t Overdo It.”

You know how people can applaud you for something but you still feel like you should’ve done more?

Well that’s exactly how I’ve been these past couple of weeks.

I’ve been beating myself up mentally about how I’m not “where I’m supposed to be.” But if you think about it … this is where I’m supposed to be. You are where you’re supposed to be!

This generation has lowkey normalized a culture where if you’re not constantly productive and “doing something,” you’re not going to be successful. That can get toxic because the truth is, we can overdo it!

These past couple of weeks, I’VE BEEN overdoing it! How so? I’ ve been overwhelmed and disappointed in myself for “not doing enough.” Do you ever feel like you’re not doing enough?

I see it as a good and bad thing because it pushes you to be better but at the same time it can affect you mentally.

We can be so hard on ourselves as humans.

Humans make mistakes, humans are irrational, humans are emotional, humans are perfectly imperfect.

I constantly have to keep reminding myself that I am human! I can be an over-thinker but alhamdulillah I’m learning to break that habit. I constantly have to remind myself that whatever didn’t work out for me, wasn’t meant for me.

Allah (s.w.t) is the best of all planners so we need to trust Him for He knows best! Trusting Allah takes you sooooo far.

My point is, I was so busy over-doing the self-criticism that I completely brushed off my accomplishments and put myself in a state where I was mentally drained. That is not okay nor acceptable.

Never again will I put myself through that. Why? Because I don’t deserve that! I work HARD! Period. Whether that’s for my blog, school, job, etc. I’m doing my best.

So you want to know how I stopped downplaying my accomplishments? By celebrating SMALL WINS!

Here’s What Small Wins Can Look Like:

Ex: If you’re a college student and you don’t have your degree yet, the end goal is to get that degree. In order to get the degree, you have to make it through the semesters; just being able to make it through each semester is a win! Celebrate it!

Fall in love with the process of your success.

Yes I didn’t reach all of my goals at the assigned deadlines, however, I still got something out of it!

Besides, Allah’s timing is always perfect, what’s meant for me will reach me! What’s meant for you will reach you too!

It’s so easy to lose hope when you’re working towards a huge goal. It’s easy to overdo the stress, thinking, and self-criticism; hang on their friend, you’re not alone 🙂

Don’t force yourself to wait until you’ve reached your “end goal,” to celebrate your accomplishments. Yes, the end goal is the light at the end of the tunnel but ALWAYS CELEBRATE the small wins! You owe yourself that! The small wins pave your path to success. Don’t ever downplay that!

If you don’t give yourself enough credit, trust me, it’ll show through the way you feel, think, and act.

Before we can actually enjoy the PROCESS of success, we have to make sure we’re treating ourselves the best way we can!

Yes there are times where we need to be productive, but we’re still human. We need to recharge. We need to guard our free-time. Most importantly, we need to love ourselves and express that love through the way we treat ourselves verbally, physically, and emotionally.

What’s Your Favorite Affirmation?

P.S. Daily Affirmations work wonders! For example, “I am strong. I am worthy. I am blessed.”

  1. Constantly expecting myself to be productive has actually caused me a lot of anxiety through the years. It’s a hard cycle to stop because everything/one around us praises those who “get work done”. You said it beautifully.
